How This Calculator Works

The body uses energy to move, and that energy demand can be estimated with a MET value. Every activity is assigned a MET score, where 1 MET is the energy cost of sitting quietly. Gentle fascia-focused movement typically falls between 2.0 and 3.8 METs depending on how much you are actually moving.

Formula: Calories per minute = (MET × 3.5 × body weight in kg) ÷ 200. Since this tool is set to a 60-minute session, it multiplies your per-minute burn by 60.

This approach is the same one used by universities and fitness researchers to estimate calorie burn for walking, yoga, stretching, and other low-impact activities. It is not a measure of fascia health or flexibility, but it gives you a reliable ballpark for the energy side of your movement practice.

Worked Examples

Example 1: 70 kg, fascia release stretching (MET 2.3)
Calories per minute = (2.3 × 3.5 × 70) ÷ 200 = 2.8175 kcal
Calories in 60 minutes = 2.8175 × 60 = 169.1 kcal

Example 2: 150 lb, Hatha yoga (MET 2.5)
Weight in kg = 150 ÷ 2.2046 = 68.04 kg
Calories per minute = (2.5 × 3.5 × 68.04) ÷ 200 = 2.9768 kcal
Calories in 60 minutes = 2.9768 × 60 = 178.6 kcal

Notice that a heavier person burns more calories at the same MET because more body mass requires more energy to move. The difference is linear: 80 kg at MET 2.3 burns about 26% more than 60 kg at the same MET.

Choosing the Right MET Value

The preset MET values are based on the Compendium of Physical Activities. Yin/restorative yoga is close to 2.0 METs, Hatha yoga 2.5 METs, slow walking 2.8 METs, and brisk walking 3.8 METs. For gentle cycling below 10 mph, 3.5 METs is a reasonable match.

No official MET category exists specifically for “fascia training,” so the default 2.3 MET option represents a gentle full-body mobility or self-myofascial release session where you are moving through stretches slowly. If your session includes more continuous movement, choose a higher value; if it is mostly passive supported poses, choose 2.0.

Factors Affecting Accuracy

  • Body composition: muscle tissue burns more energy than fat at rest, so two people of the same weight can differ by 5–10%.
  • Temperature and terrain: working out in heat, or on uneven ground, raises energy expenditure slightly.
  • Actual pace: a “slow walk” might be 2.0 mph for one person and 3.0 mph for another. Adjust the MET choice accordingly.
  • Session composition: if you include long rest periods or very passive stretches, your true burn will be lower than the estimate.
